NAMI Connecticut
What is NAMI Connecticut and What Do They Do?
Founded in 1984, NAMI Connecticut (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit, grassroots
organization dedicated to improving the lives of all people in Connecticut affected by mental illness. For
over 40 years, in collaboration with our nine local affiliates, we work to change public attitudes about
mental illness and offer support, education and advocacy programs at the state and local levels.
NAMI Connecticut plays an active role providing support, education, and advocacy at the community
level. We offer support groups to let people know they are not alone and to be there with information and
support when needed. Our affiliates speak publicly to educate others about mental health conditions and
provide educational programs, free of cost, to youth and young adults, parents, individuals, and families
affected by mental illness. They advocate for effective and timely services from their local service
providers, and they offer hope to those experiencing the impact of mental illness
NAMI Connecticut is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people affected by mental
health conditions through support, education, and advocacy.
NAMI Connecticut envisions a world where all persons affected in any way by mental health
conditions experience the best quality of life and where mental health is accepted as an integral
part of overall wellbeing.
